Wowgram 1809.

Last Thursday at our club (SESWC Edinburgh), we gathered to play using my favourite Black Powder system. The game was a Napoleonic game, enhanced with the Clash of the Eagles supplement. This time, we played for points, specifically 600 points. Michael together with Mike led his Austrians, while I with David led my Duchy of Warsaw.

2. The game.

Everything went according to plan. With the advantage of light cavalry, the Austrians had to deploy first. We also initiated the game. The main objective of the game was to capture a hill in the middle of the battlefield, worth 10 points. We used a scoring system that awarded points for destroyed units, taken directly from the supplement. We advanced and successfully captured the hill in the first turn. Our attack on the Austrian flank was also successful, resulting in the destruction of two of their battalions. Unfortunately, our cavalry did not support our attack and lagged behind, which would soon come back to haunt us.

The Austrians fell back and reorganized. However, they launched a more effective attack on our positions, managing to push me down the hill and separate my brigade from David's. Our situation looked grim, but I spotted an opportunity. If I could regain the hill and eliminate one of the Austrian battalions, we might still have a chance to win. I launched an attack but unfortunately, I was defeated, leading to our ultimate loss in the game.

Mahdists. 28mm.

Over several years, whenever I attended wargaming conventions, I would buy a box of plastic Mahdists from the Perry brothers. Eventually, I accumulated so many that they had to be painted to make room for more projects. It took me a month to finish painting them, resulting in 8 new warbands, each with 20 figures. Two of the warbands were equipped with rifles, while the other six had spears. In addition, I used banners designed by Pete Barfield. I now have enough infantry and it's time to get some cavalry for them. All the figures in my collection are from Perry Miniatures, while the bases are a mix of Warbases, Warlord Games and Renedra. To ensure I had enough bases, I used all the 5cm by 5cm ones I had. Fortunately, I was able to replenish my stock thanks to Carronade.

Carronade 2024.

Over the weekend, I attended Carronade, a wargame show in Falkirk organized by the Falkirk District Wargames Club - the second-largest convention of its kind in Scotland. Here's a brief photo report from the event.

I played two games during the show, but unfortunately, I lost both. The first game was the American Civil War on a 54mm scale, prepared by S.P.I.T. They used simplified DBA rules to play the game. Interestingly, the entire collection was sold during the show and has already found a new owner. By the way, I'm still very impressed with the collection of the person who bought it. I'm sorry I forgot your name though. The second game was Peter Pan from Gothenburg Gamers. Colin Jack mainly created this game, using his figures and terrains. In this game, I played as a pirate against my former playing buddy, Dave O'Brian, who played as the latter. It was great to play with my old friends again, but it's a little more difficult now because of the distance between us. Of course, I made some necessary purchases at the show, and this time I strictly followed the list I prepared before the event. Surprisingly, it worked! While watching the producers' stands, I made several plans for subsequent projects. I still have room for 17 figurine boxes in my closet ;)

Thanks to the Falkirk District Wargames Club for organizing the successful event. Looking forward to next year!
